WHO CAN BENEFIT?

Everyone! Infants to seniors, mothers-to-be, athletes, and accident victims will benefit from a healthy spine and nerve system! If you have a health problem, our team will strive to correct its cause, not just treat the symptoms. If you are symptom free, upper cervical chiropractic care is one of the best ways to stay healthy.

People suffering from a variety of health conditions have had their health restored through Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care of Spartanburg. This “natural approach” confirms the fact that the body is a self-healing organism directly controlled and coordinated by the central nerve system. The nerve system is responsible for all communication within the body.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The public today has been so inundated with intervention that they are not even looking for non-interference. They do not realize that it exists. They don’t know it’s a choice. They don’t know if they can find the underlying problem that’s causing whatever condition they have.

The cost is a fraction of what you have probably already spent in your quest to get well. There will be more expense at the beginning because of the X-rays that are necessary. Our organization has asked each doctor to provide some type of payment plan that enables you and your family to get under care as soon as possible. If you have chiropractic insurance benefits, Upper Cervical care should be covered, as well. Unfortunately, some HMOs and PPOs only have certain chiropractors on their list of approved providers, and you must go to them. Most of these, though equally well trained in other chiropractic procedures, may not be trained in precision upper cervical chiropractic.

For an Upper Cervical doctor to provide precise care for a patient, the exact movement of the bone must be determined, even to the millimeter of misalignment because that millimeter can literally mean life or death.

Instead of being dependent on medications and trying to simply patch up the symptoms, we get at the root cause of the problem so the body can communicate properly and heal those tissues, resolving the problem. Everything else is from the outside-in, which is treating the effect rather than getting at the basic cause.

When you were born, you were healthy. At some point, you began to experience dis-ease. As your “life switch” is turned on, your body is going to backtrack through that sequence of events again. You might have had headaches when you were 10, fibromyalgia when you were 20, and leg pain when you were 40. As you go back through those events and your body repairs and changes, you might experience those symptoms again.
How long it will take for a patient to get better depends on a multitude of different factors including the patient’s age, how long the problem has existed, and the degree of damage seen on X-ray. We see people get immediate symptomatic relief or problem relief right after an adjustment. Sometimes it might take months or years for the body to resolve the problem.
After your first adjustment, you may experience some soreness as a result of the body having been out of balance for so long. As the body moves towards balance, the muscles must get rid of toxins which have accumulated due to imbalance and lead to soreness. We encourage patients to drink a lot of water to minimize soreness. Some patients may not experience anything at all. Some may experience relief after their first adjustment.
Fortunately, no. The upper cervical adjustment can be described as a slight, predetermined direction of pressure applied to the first bone (Atlas) or second bone (Axis) in the neck. Depending on the technique, it can feel like a brisk thrust, a light tap, or a massage on the side of the neck just below the earlobe, which is where the Atlas is located. Sometimes this is accompanied by a loud pop or series of tiny ticks as the bone moves back into place. There is NO twisting of the neck. This adjustment is engineered to reposition the weight of the head (10 to 14 pounds) over the center of the body to restore body balance and restore brain to body communication. When the adjustment is made, muscles begin to relax, blood and oxygen circulation is increased, the brain can communicate with the affected area, and the body’s natural healing process begins. The healing process continues only if body balance is maintained, and the brain can communicate with all parts of the body.
That depends on your own body. Some people can hold an adjustment for several months, even a year at a time. Most must be adjusted once or twice a week in the beginning, then one or twice a month. Everyone is different. The upper cervical doctor’s objective is to make as precise an upper cervical alignment as possible, then help maintain it with as few adjustments as possible, allowing you to enjoy a better quality of life.
Holding the adjustment is what gets people better. It’s keeping the nerve communication clear over time that allows people to heal and repair back to normal state of health. When you are holding your adjustment, your body can function optimally.
The Atlas is the donut-shaped bone the skull rests on. The spinal cord comes out of the brain and brainstem passing through the center of the donut shape. Your spinal cord at that point is a confluence of trillions of nerve fibers (the nervous system) passing through the small opening in the Atlas. These fibers eventually branch off, carrying information to every part of your body. If the Atlas is out of its proper position it can irritate, constrict or disrupt vital nerve signals to any portion of your body, which can cause nerve, muscle or joint painorgan dysfunction, lowered immunity and countless other conditions you would not ordinarily relate to a problem originating in your neck.
Because the imbalance affects the entire spine and body. Wherever your Atlas moves, your head moves with it. If this top bone in your neck has shifted out of position, even slightly, it can move your head off the center of your body. To keep the head over the center of the neck, the entire spine and pelvis will twist, pulling one hip up and one leg with it. You are now walking around on one leg that is shorter than the other. This places more weight on one side of your body than another. The wear and tear on your entire body is exactly like driving a car that is out of alignment The result can be muscle and joint pain anywhere in the body. Without correcting the problem, which originated with a single bone (Atlas) at the top of your neck moving out of position, your entire body is now imbalanced. When this continues over time, something else starts to happen. Because nerve flow is disrupted or distorted, degeneration of cells in organs can occur, causing internal physical problems that may not show up for years.

Brain health and healing messages leave the brain by way of the brainstem, pass through the neck, down the spinal cord and out over the entire nervous system to all parts of the body. These messages control everything that goes on in the body. These messages also direct all body healing.
Subluxation means there is a misalignment of one or both top two bones in your spine, the Atlas and the Axis. When the top vertebra dislodges, the rest of the spinal bones move out of alignment. It’s called spinal compensation. When you put the top one back in, the muscles literally pull the rest of the vertebrae into alignment, a process called spinal decompensation; the neurological pathways can come back to life and the body virtually mends itself.
Chiropractic care can help anyone perform and be at their best.

The brain communicates with the body through the nervous system. If either of the top two bones in the neck -the Atlas and the Axis- are misaligned, communication is interrupted. Problems occur when these vital messages from the brain are not received correctly.
